I was inspired to do this painting when I saw a old picture of an American Indian lady with lots of beads on, and I thought about how our native Americans have struggled to survive in their own county. I wrote the following poem to describe her struggle. Prints and cards are available. Western Family The old lady remembers the ancient stories she has heard, of her tribe in the west living as free as a bird. Now she makes trinkets to sell in the shops, most of them made from soda can tops. She prays when she dies she’ll be able to be, with her great western family, once again living free. - Carol Fields * Receive a free 8"x10" limited edition Giclée print that includes the poem with the purchase of the original painting. |
